TURKEY WEENIES and CLICKS

Piper, now 10 weeks old, is an avid learner and especially loves exploring with her mouth. Having a food-driven learner is a gift for those teachable moments... not so much, though, when the classroom is the back garden (filled with things that have to be frequently removed from her mouth -- like pebbles and strips of cedar mulch -- before she tears off for the next irresistible mystery out there).

As the attached YouTube videos show, she can hardly wait to learn more, more, more when it comes to basic obedience and tricks. Coming down the stairs appears to be a scary hurdle still, even though she runs up the steps. Stay tuned for when she slays that dragon -- perhaps next week.

We start Puppy School next weekend and I've inquired at a local Retirement Residence about visiting the residents there -- not only will this help with socializing Piper, she'll also be exposed  to walkers, wheelchairs, canes and other things that might otherwise prove spooky on the certification exam (whenever that may be).

I'm a life long owner and respecter of dogs with previous work experience in cancer care. Although I've long marveled at the gifts animals bring to help humans feel better, this is my first foray into working with Dog-As-Therapist... which makes this a journey of discovery Misty and I will share.
