Dorothy approached Piper in the way shared by those who know dogs: comfortably, happily, with confidence. And Piper enjoyed the cuddles, appearing not to notice Dorothy’s walker (she has quickly acclimatized to moving around walkers, wheelchairs, canes and the like.)
As Dorothy and Piper settled in for their visit, Dorothy told me that she used to rescue dogs. It started when she watched a dog being abandoned by the road near where she lived. Dorothy rescued that dog and a number of others. No wonder she handled Piper like a pro!
We left our friends at the Colonial and headed to the bank where Piper encountered scary glass doors that open automatically. She did walk through the scary doors with encouragement but we’ll be returning there to do homework – passing back and forth through the doors and enjoying all those treats she’ll earn.
